Red Sky Performance is Canada’s leading company in contemporary Indigenous performing art.
This new production: BACKBONE, was selected to open the 18th CINARS Biennale in Montreal on November 13th, 2018 at Monument-National. Following that, the company will tour The Netherlands during January and February 2019. On 22nd February, the show will be close to den Haag; in Rijswijk. We have arranged for a special evening event where you will receive a discount for you and your guests, meet the performers and the artistic director, and network with your peers and Canadian Embassy staff with a drink.
“Backbone ferociously brings to life the electricity, circuitry, and impulses of a sentient land as it emerges from millions of years of restlessness. With powerful live music and highly physical solos, duets and ensembles, the performers interpret nature's spine and landscapes to embody Indigenous mapping and Western cartography”.
Tickets are normally € 31.50, but for Canadian Embassy staff and NCCC members there is a discount to €25, which includes a drink after the performance.
Once you RSVP, we will send you a code. With this code, you can book your tickets directly with the theatre and receive the discounted price.
The performance is a combination of traditional and contemporary dance connecting the past with the present.
“The idea that there is a 'spine' to our continents is an Indigenous concept as old as living memory; it reveals our way of perceiving and mapping land as alive, sentient, and intact. Through dance and music, I wanted to show that the rocky spine of the Americas has life, circuitry, electricity, and dynamic impulses - much like the human spine. For us, there is a strong connection between the earth's backbone and a human one. We are inseparable,” says Artistic Director Sandra Laronde.See all dates and locations in the attached flyer.
