    The Opportunity:
    This position involves being part of a dynamic team environment responsible for designing, developing and supporting software solutions to meet business requirements in the areas of Sales, Marketing, Customer Support and Services. The position will be primarily focused on the systems used by Customer Support and Marketing, and will involve leading the development and consolidation of OpenText Community-based applications

    You are great at:

    • Leading migration and transformation of existing community platforms into a single community experience
    • Translating business requirements into functional/technical requirements working within the framework of the tools available.
    • Interacting with Business representatives to ensure their requirements are being met
    • Developing solutions to meet the business requirements while meeting time and cost constraints
    • Leading the full software development lifecycle (requirements, design, code, unit test, implementation)
    • Adhering to IT Change Management and best practices
    • Investigating and fixing advanced (3rd level) application issues

    What it takes:

    • A bachelor’s degree, College diploma or equivalent experience
    • Implementations and/or migrations of community-based sites
    • Solid experience working with database technologies (ex: MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle) and data migrations
    • Comfortable in both Windows and Linux environments
    • 8+ years of development experience using PHP, CSS, JS
    • Experience with web and application servers and their configuration
    • Ability and experience providing operational support
    • An aptitude to learn new technology quickly 
    • Effective documentation skills and excellent written and oral communication skills 
    • The ability to handle multiple streams of work effectively 
    • Experience with any of the following are considered an asset: Vanilla Forums, .Net, Java or OpenText products (ex: Content Server, TeamSite, etc)

    Sunday 4th December many people gathered together at Beechwood Military Cemetery in Ottawa to attend the annual ‘Wreaths across Canada’ (WAC) ceremony.

    The organisation of ´Wreaths across Canada’ intends to place (shortly before Christmas) a wreath on each of the graves of every fallen Canadian soldier in WWI or WWII.

    Also the graves of fallen soldiers in more recent conflicts are covered with a wreath. In the Netherlands a similar event takes place at the war cemetery in Holten where every year on 24th December school children light a candle at every grave of a fallen Canadian soldier.

    The Defence Attaché of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Lieutenant –Colonel Christa Oppers-Beumer laid a wreath on the grave of Albert Beverdam who is buried at Beechwood amongst his Canadian WW II comrades. She also laid a wreath at the memorial site where the names of around 20 Dutchmen (who mostly died during pilot training in WWII in Canada) are written on a Remembrance stone. It was a solemn and heartwarming ceremony with the involvement of many young navy, army and air cadets. ‘Lest we forget…. ‘

    In close cooperation with Invest Ottawa, The Hague Security Delta, InnovationQuarter, the Dutch Chamber of Commerce and the Dutch Embassy in Ottawa, the Canadian Embassy to the Netherlands has launched the Canada-Netherlands Cyber & Security Technologies Soft Landing Program. This program offers Canadian and Dutch companies a unique opportunity to 'soft land' for a trial period in the respective Dutch and Canadian markets. InnovationQuarter is co-organizing the program and will be dedicated to providing the Canadian participants with tailored support.

    Cyber & Security Technologies Soft Landing Program

    Ultimately, the Soft Landing Program is conceived to provide a low risk entry trial to Canadian and Dutch companies entering a new international market, accessing the resources they need to more readily tap into commercial opportunities by connecting with new partners, closing new deals, and possibly setting up a permanent presence in the market. Participating companies will be provided with access to key resources and support by Invest Ottawa and The Hague Security Delta to build a strong regional network in the markets and make strategic connections.

    Chris van Voorden, Director Foreign Investments at InnovationQuarter: “This Soft Landing Platform offers great opportunities for both Dutch and Canadian companies. The program provides companies with the opportunity to learn from international counterparts and has great potential for new business  relations and cooperation. If Canadian companies are successful in this program, InnovationQuarter will be more than willing to support them in permanently expanding their business to The Hague. Our services include introductions to networks,  finding a suitable office location, support with incorporating a legal entity, registering at the Chamber of Commerce and opening a bank account.”

    Each participating company will land between January 1, 2017 and March 31, 2017 for a period of up to three months. Within this period, start dates and durations of soft landings for each company are flexible, and these decisions are tailored to company needs.

    Twelve port-related startups from around the world settled in Rotterdam last year. Six of these have a customer contract. Through this, the port accelerator PortXL has clearly proven itself in its first year. As a result, PortXL, together with its internationally recognized partners, is launching a new startup accelerator program.

    A successful first year

    Rotterdam harbour is a haven for port-lovers with innovative ideas and concepts. And the ambition to be the smartest port in the world is of paramount importance. For this reason PortXL was launched on October 29, 2015, the only startup program with a focus on ports.

    More than 180 mentors and highly involved partners including NCCC members EY, Damen, Boskalis and InnovationQuarter, offered twelve startups the opportunity to bring their technologies to a higher level. Out of the twelve startups, six have signed a customer contract. In addition, all startups have indicated that they have the intention to stay in Rotterdam. For them, Rotterdam is the place to bring their startup to a higher level.

    The Program

    PortXL is a hundred-day program where ten to twelve selected startups are intensively coached by mentors to jump start their concepts. Over three months,  startups work on their business plan and have the opportunity to pitch their technologies to 250 port professionals and more than 20 CEO’s. Through this initiative, PortXL is creating a bridge between startups and large enterprises.


    Currently PortXL is looking for the ten most promising port-related startups in the world for the 2017 program. The program selects teams with disruptive, scalable business propositions that can be launched within a year. PortXL focuses on Transport & Logistics, Energy, Chemical & Refining and Maritime sectors.

    On June 22, 2017 these startups will present themselves at the final event; Shakedown.

    Canadian and Dutch high school students discuss their shared past and future.

    How do you explain what a stroopwafel is? What do Montreal and Rotterdam have in common? And does Canada really have that many moose? During the international project ‘Touch of Dutch’ over 200 Dutch and Canadian high school students got answers to these and many more questions!

    The Touch of Dutch project involved a series of class room sessions with interesting topics as ‘Discover the Netherlands – Discover Canada, ‘Safety First’ and ‘Inspiring Innovation’ and challenges students to come up with creative ideas for future cooperation between both countries.

    This unique project ended with a series of Skype sessions, in which students worked together to give a positive push to the enduring values that bind Canada and the Netherlands, whilst exploring possibilities and opportunities for both Canada and the Netherlands.

    The story of the friendship between the two countries is a key element in the project. It takes students back to the highlights of the Canadian military campaign that led to the liberation of the Netherlands in 1945, but even more so does it test students on the current relationship and choosing ways to move forward in terms of cooperation, technology and security.

    Six high schools participated: Woodroffe High School (CAD), Nepean High School (CAD), Bell High School (CAD), the Sint-Oelbertgymnasium (NL), the Jan van Brabant College (NL) and the Cambreur College (NL). The students came up with some great thoughts on the future Dutch-Canadian friendship, but the prize for the best answer was won by a group from the Cambreur College and Woodroffe High School: Nina van Rijen, Indi Verheijen, Luuk Baltissen, Niels Cornelissen, Rachelle Rutgrink, Anthony Capy, Sophia Okwir and Grace Pereira.

    Canada is hot, zeker in de levensmiddelenindustrie liggen er veel kansen voor Nederlandse bedrijven. Deze conclusie kan zeker getrokken worden na de presentatie van de Canadese Investment Champion Bruce Cowper op 24 juni jl. tijdens de Informatiebijeenkomst Trade & Investment kansen in Canada voor de Food industrie bij de HAS in Den Bosch.

    Bovendien willen de Canadezen heel graag met Nederlandse bedrijven samenwerken. Via een uitvoerig selectieproces is Nederland geïdentificeerd als dé partner om de Canadese Food Processing Industry naar een hoger plan te tillen, meer efficiency met Nederlandse technologie. Food Industry.pdf
